How Box O’ Mine Became the First 3D Online Customized Packaging Tool in Israel
Box O’ Mine (BOM) is a custom-branded packaging eCommerce platform, founded by Hila Arbell in 2019. Being the first of its kind in Israel, BOM makes the box manufacturing process fast, fun, and hassle-free. Representing the next evolution of cardboard box packaging, BOM allows you to design and print branded boxes via an intuitive and easy-to-use platform.
Using 3D enhancing technology, BOM provides users with an advanced 3D model interface that ensures a reliable, fast and engaging user-experience. It allows you to play with the design, font, color, and texture of your package to customize it exactly the way you want. This state-of-the-art crafting experience, gives you the option to review and alter your packaged creation online before printing it off.
You don’t need to be a designer or print specialist – With BOM, the whole process takes just 10-15 minutes and is fun, easy and intuitive.
BOM had a remarkable idea in their mind, but needed help implementing it. CEO and founder, Hila Arbell, felt that in Israel, there was a lack of custom box packaging platforms for businesses to use. As a marketing expert and business consultant, Arbell quickly understood that eCommerce merchants were in need of customized boxes not only for their clients and brand but also for gifting employees on holidays or special events.
Up until now, the whole process of creating a unique customized box would take a very long time. Most traditional custom box packaging tools today give you the option to upload an image and deliver the finished product to you within 7-10 business days. So you’re paying for something without knowing its end-result. Other traditional custom box packing tools first make you get your idea professionally designed, call a digital printing house, send them a formatted document (that won’t always open) and finally you’ll receive a price quote. You then need to wait another couple of weeks - depending on the digital printing house’s availability - until finally receiving your customized box.
This simply didn’t make sense to Arbell. “How could something in such high-demand not have a digital platform readily available for businesses?” she asked. This led her to make the simple connection between digital printers and 3D design.
Arbell wanted to make it possible for both small companies that needed small amounts printed, as well as larger enterprises that need limitless amounts, to use the BOM platform alike. With all this in mind, her goal was to cut costs and save time for businesses.
That’s when Betanet came into the picture.
Its was obvious to Betanet that they would develop this solution using Magento, an open-source eCommerce platform. Magento has unlimited possibilities to adapt all functionalities to any company’s needs. The challenge, however, was to find a solution for the 3D model, that would transform at the end of the design process to 2D. This was crucial to the technology as it would influence the accuracy of size and color when printing and would make sure that edges of the packages weren’t cut off. It would also give users a really good picture of how the box looks online before printing it off. Betanet started off by thinking about the fastest and most innovative way to get BOM to market. But, before beginning to work, they wanted to think things through and check exactly how the technological side of it all could be implemented. Only after investigating and thoroughly analysing 3D solutions, the latest design trends and technologies, did they start working on this idea.
Betanet defined the MVP and the definition of success. Later on, they started working on wireframing, design, backend and frontend development - and came up with the most relevant solution to support the technical model that BOM needed. It was called: web-to-print, a service that provides print products via online storefronts. This didn’t exist for box packaging in Israel yet.
Betanet gave unlimited possibilities to adapt all functionalities to the company’s needs by using new and advanced technology. During the process, Betanet had to adapt their working process in order to suit BOM’s requirements and needs. For instance, not a lot of developers know how to use some of the programs and software that BOM uses. Betanet, however, succeeded in making that switch.
In a matter of months, and with the use of innovative technologies and advanced methodologies, BOM was ready to be launched! Furthermore, no pre-launch release for the product was necessary as absolutely no bugs and errors were discovered on the platform right from the very beginning.
This was way more than BOM ever expected! Today BOM offers clients, including American Eagle, Loreal, and Google Israel, the ability to have fun while creating beautiful 3D boxes and packages for their employees and clients.
With the help of Betanet, we boosted customer experience,
grew our client base and became the first 3D box packaging platform in Israel!
BOM considered several web developers company, before deciding to use Betanet solutions. After trying out some of the most well-known and reputable companies in Israel, BOM figured out that they couldn’t meet their exact needs in the required amount of time.
Arbell first heard about Betanet through another client that had a website based on Magento, an open-source eCommerce platform. Betanet, a Magento solution partner, knew how to build the platform with their programming power, strong capabilities and unique methodologies.
Arbell pictured BOM to be just like an eCommerce website that you can easily order a coat on, for instance. But it needed to have the technology to design a box in 3D while still keeping the ability to transform it in 2D. This way, you can really get a good picture of how your box will look before printing it off. She also wanted it to be super simple to use like adding text, a logo and graphics at the click of a button.
Betanet made it happen by combining a complex technological user interface with
a simple user experience.

Arbell’s future vision is to expand the variety of boxes on offer, including wine boxes, jewelry boxes, and smaller packages to the BOM platform. She also believes that the unwrapping and unpackaging process is crucial to the success of any company today. This is because users today who don’t experience a good unpackaging process are less likely to be a returning customer. That’s why BOM plans to add extras inside the box - confetti, paper bags and more.
